Taking Your Next Step: A Journey of Faith

Today’s inspiration is drawn from “Your Next Step” by Elder Randall K. Bennett Of the Seventy, during October 2015.

A Call to Progress

Elder Randall K. Bennett’s message, “Your Next Step,” extends a loving invitation from our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, to move forward on our spiritual journey. In a world filled with uncertainty, this message provides clarity on the path we must tread and the principles that will guide us.

Scripture: Proverbs 3:5-6 - Trust in the Lord

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

The Desire to Return Home

Elder Bennett begins by highlighting a poignant moment in a meeting with fellow Latter-day Saints when the question of returning to live with Heavenly Father was posed. Every hand eagerly rose in response, expressing the desire to dwell with God again. However, when asked about their confidence in achieving this divine goal, many hands hesitated and lowered.

This phenomenon mirrors a common struggle—believing in our own ability to bridge the gap between our current state and our eternal aspirations. When we perceive this gap, doubt can creep in, and we may be tempted to lose hope.

The Cleansing Power of Faith

Elder Bennett reminds us that our aspiration to return to our Heavenly Father requires purification, as “no unclean thing can dwell with God.” To live with Him once more, we must undergo the process of cleansing and sanctification. The beauty lies in the fact that we are not alone on this journey.

The Atonement of Jesus Christ stands as a beacon of hope, providing the means for our redemption. Faith in the Savior empowers us to progress on our spiritual path. By exercising our faith, we become purified and sanctified, allowing us to draw nearer to God.

Embracing Childlike Faith

One of the fundamental principles Elder Bennett emphasizes is the need to become as a child. Just as a child takes its first steps toward growth, so too must we take spiritual steps with childlike humility and trust in our Heavenly Father and Savior.

Our loving Heavenly Father is ever ready to embrace us, no matter how small or hesitant our steps may be. He rejoices in our efforts, and even if we stumble, He encourages us to rise and try again. As children of God, we should approach our journey with unwavering determination and faith.

Acting with Faith

The second principle illustrated by Elder Bennett’s message is the importance of acting with faith. Two faithful individuals, Yuri and Mariya, sought eternal companionship. Their willingness to act in faith led to a miraculous encounter on a train, demonstrating that the Lord blesses our faith-driven steps.

The Lord’s promises far exceed our actions when we act with faith. Our efforts are met with divine blessings, and the windows of heaven open to pour out countless blessings upon us. This principle encourages us to take faith-filled steps, even when faced with discomfort or the need for repentance and change.

Overcoming Procrastination

Elder Bennett’s third principle focuses on overcoming the natural man’s tendency to procrastinate. The natural man may tempt us to put off spiritual growth or give up when we encounter obstacles.

The key is to acknowledge our mistakes and persistently move forward. We should not fear making errors along the way; instead, we should embrace each step as a chance to improve. By remaining yoked to the Savior and trusting in His power, we can conquer the natural man’s influence.

The Signposts on Our Journey

Elder Bennett highlights the importance of the sacrament and Sabbath day observance as signposts on our spiritual journey. These weekly practices serve as reminders of our commitment to follow the Savior and draw closer to Him. Our faithful observance of the Sabbath is a tangible sign to the Lord that we love Him.

Embrace Your Next Step

Elder Randall K. Bennett’s message urges us to heed the call of our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ to take our next step toward Them. We are not alone on this journey; divine guidance, blessings, and strength accompany our efforts.

Spread Light and Love

As we take our next steps on this spiritual journey, let us extend the message of hope and love to others. By living the principles of faith, acting with trust in the Lord, and persisting in our progress, we can make the world a better place. Reach out to those in need, share your testimony, and strive to be a source of light in an ever-changing world. In doing so, you’ll not only find joy in your journey but also help others find their way back to their Heavenly Father.

Let us embrace our next step with faith, hope, and love, for our Heavenly Father and Savior are with us every step of the way. Link to the original: Your Next Step
