Embracing Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ

Inspired by President Marion G. Romney’s October 1979 General Conference Address

Today’s inspiration is drawn from President Marion G. Romney’s powerful message delivered in the October 1979 General Conference. In his address, President Romney emphasized the central role of “Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ” as the first principle of the gospel. This timeless message continues to resonate with people of faith, highlighting the profound significance of our belief in Jesus Christ.

The Foundation of Faith

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” —Hebrews 11:1 (KJV)

Faith. It’s a word that carries immense weight in our lives, whether we realize it or not. It’s the cornerstone of our spiritual journey, the catalyst for transformation, and the bridge that connects us to the divine. As President Romney reminds us, faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is not merely an option but the very first principle of the gospel.

A Message as Old as Time

The concept of faith has been integral to humanity’s relationship with the divine since time immemorial. In the early days of human history, the angelic visitation to Adam demonstrated the significance of faith. The angel declared that all should be done in the name of the Son, underlining the central role of Jesus Christ even before His earthly ministry.

This thread of faith is woven throughout the scriptures, from the words of Nephi in the Book of Mormon to the teachings of King Benjamin. It resounds in the New Testament, as seen in Peter and John’s bold proclamation that salvation comes exclusively through Jesus Christ. Jesus Himself made it unequivocally clear that belief in Him is the path to eternal life.

The Atonement: Our Source of Hope

At the heart of our faith lies the Atonement—a concept uniquely tied to Jesus Christ. Through His Atonement, Christ took upon Himself the burden of our sins. He suffered, bled, and died, all to redeem us from the grasp of spiritual death. This act of unfathomable love and sacrifice opened the way for forgiveness, reconciliation, and the promise of resurrection.

The Grand Gospel Plan

The gospel of Jesus Christ encompasses a grand plan that extends beyond our earthly existence. It’s a divine strategy conceived before the foundations of the world. This plan, presented in the great premortal council, centers on our free agency and the Savior’s role in bringing us back into God’s presence. It foresees our mortal trials, our falls, and our need for a Redeemer.

The Gospel in Action

As believers, we’re invited to act upon our faith, repent, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. This act of faith sanctifies us through the Holy Ghost, enabling us to stand spotless before the Lord at the last day. We are commanded to call upon Him, for this is the essence of His gospel.

The Resurrection and Hope

Christ’s victory over death and the grave is the cornerstone of our hope. Without His triumph, we would be forever subject to spiritual death, disconnected from God’s presence. But through His resurrection, He provides a path for us to be reunited with Him.

Our Witness

In closing, I bear witness to the truth of these teachings. Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is the first principle of the gospel, the foundation upon which our entire spiritual edifice is built. Just as President Romney declared, there is “no other name given nor any other means whereby salvation can come unto the children of men, only in and through the name of Christ, the Lord Omnipotent.”

As we reflect on the significance of faith in our lives, let us remember that faith is not passive but active. It calls us to follow the example of our Savior, Jesus Christ, by extending love, compassion, and kindness to all those we encounter. Our faith should inspire us to make the world a better place, one act of service and love at a time.

Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is the bedrock of our beliefs, the key to our salvation, and the source of our hope. It is a timeless principle that continues to guide and inspire us on our spiritual journey. May our faith be unwavering, our actions reflect our beliefs, and our love for others be a testament to the transformative power of faith. Link to the original: Click Here
