Seeking True Security in an Ever-Changing World

In the quest for security, we often find ourselves amidst a sea of ever-changing knowledge and beliefs. This perpetual search for truth, both in our personal lives and in the realm of science, has led to remarkable discoveries, yet it has also given rise to contentious theories. The unending questions of the natural man persist, and yesterday’s answers may not hold true today or tomorrow.

This unquenchable thirst for understanding extends far beyond the realm of science. In our complex world, traditional values and roles are constantly challenged and scrutinized, all in the name of liberating individuals from anxieties, fears, and prejudices. It seems that the natural inclination of humanity is to mold truth and knowledge to fit personal desires, to create a sense of carnal security.

However, as we navigate this sea of constantly shifting perspectives and values, we find that these ceaseless changes often lead to a state of perpetual insecurity, rather than the security we seek. It’s a paradox that in our pursuit of security, we often end up feeling even more uncertain. This uncertainty has profound implications, especially for the youth, many of whom may abdicate their responsibilities or even lose hope.

The Illusory Pursuit of Carnal Security

In a world characterized by trials, tribulations, and ceaseless changes, it’s clear that we all yearn for a measure of security—something unchanging to anchor ourselves to. To achieve this, we surround ourselves with various mechanisms and organizations that promise security. We cling to security blankets to comfort our children, install security systems to protect our homes, and even rely on social security systems to weather temporal storms. On a global scale, we witness organizations like the United Nations Security Council striving to maintain peace among nations. We’re willing to invest in these forms of security, yet we often find that they fall short of delivering the real security we crave. Could it be that we place too much trust in worldly solutions and the “arm of flesh”?

Security is an essential aspect of our lives. It encompasses knowledge about our true identity, the purpose of life, how to interact with others, and how to face daily adversities and challenges. It is, quite literally, a matter of life and death. Every day presents us with choices between good and evil, right and wrong. When we lack a sense of security or build our lives on false, worldly security, our attitudes, goals, and relationships suffer.

However, amidst this quest for security, the question arises: Where and how can we find true, righteous security? In the context of this discussion, we’ll refer to it as “spiritual security.”

Finding Spiritual Security: Turning to the Lord and Trusting Him

Spiritual security offers unique advantages. It doesn’t come with taxes, it remains unchanging, it doesn’t infringe upon our liberty or free agency, and it yields positive, comforting, spiritual, and eternal results. However, it’s crucial to understand that spiritual security does not eliminate danger, oppression, or opposition—it coexists with them because free agency inherently brings insecurity.

So, how can we attain spiritual security? The answer, while simple, often eludes many: we must turn to the Lord and trust Him. King Limhi’s words in the Book of Mormon echo this sentiment: “But if ye will turn to the Lord with full purpose of heart, and put your trust in him, and serve him with all diligence of mind, if ye do this, he will, according to his own will and pleasure, deliver you out of bondage” (Mosiah 7:33).

Nephi, another prophet from the Book of Mormon, emphasized this point further: “O Lord, I have trusted in thee, and I will trust in thee forever. I will not put my trust in the arm of flesh; for I know that cursed is he that putteth his trust in the arm of flesh” (2 Ne. 4:34–35).

Revelation: The Path to Spiritual Security

Spiritual security is intrinsically tied to revelation, for it is through revelation that we gain a deep understanding of Deity, our purpose in life, and how to navigate the challenges we face.

Revelation reveals the true nature of God, which, in turn, influences our character and choices. Without this understanding, we are likely to be molded by worldly values and perspectives, rather than divine ones.

Spiritual security is born from revelation that unfolds the plan of salvation, a blueprint for navigating life’s pitfalls and challenges. This plan provides us with a direction to follow, ensuring that we can strengthen ourselves against the pitfalls of the world.

Furthermore, spiritual security hinges on revelation that points to the source of the plan of salvation: Jesus Christ. The scriptures resound with teachings of Christ, reinforcing that He is the source of redemption and salvation.

Revelation also offers solace in the face of death. It assures us that through the Resurrection, the grave has no victory, and the sting of death is swallowed up in Christ.

In addition, spiritual security is anchored in revelation that promises an unchanging, everlasting way of life. Our God is “the same yesterday, today, and forever,” and this consistency provides us with a firm foundation for our values and beliefs.

Lastly, revelation enlightens us about our true identity and our relationship with God. Understanding our divine nature equips us to resist temptation and make righteous choices.

Embracing Spiritual Security Through Ordinances

As we walk the path of spiritual security, we find that it is strengthened through the ordinances of salvation, which are essentially covenants with the Lord. These ordinances provide us with divine power that can be used in our daily lives.

Yesterday’s revelations gave assurance about the coming of Jesus Christ and the fulfillment of the Lord’s words spoken through holy prophets. Today, the Book of Mormon serves as a reservoir of spiritual security. As President Ezra Taft Benson declared, we should use this sacred scripture to read, teach, share, and testify of its message.

Embracing Spiritual Security in Our Lives

In conclusion, spiritual security is not an elusive concept—it is attainable, and it empowers us to live meaningful, purpose-driven lives. Turning to the Lord and trusting in Him, seeking revelation, understanding our divine nature, and embracing the ordinances of salvation are steps on this path to spiritual security.

Today, let us heed the wisdom of Elder Charles Didier and recognize that the pursuit of true security does not lie in worldly possessions or temporal solutions. It is found in our relationship with God and our willingness to follow His guidance through personal revelation. With spiritual security as our anchor, we can confidently navigate life’s uncertainties and challenges, remaining steadfast in our commitment to truth and righteousness.

Be a Source of Spiritual Security

As we reflect on the message of spiritual security, let us not keep this treasure to ourselves. Instead, let us share it with those around us, especially with the youth who may be grappling with uncertainty and insecurity. By helping them turn to the Lord, trust in Him, and seek personal revelation, we can be a source of strength and guidance in their lives.

Furthermore, let us be diligent in our own pursuit of spiritual security. Study the scriptures, pray for guidance, and seek personal revelation. As you do so, you will not only find greater security in your own life but also become a beacon of light and hope to others.

In a world that often feels adrift in a sea of change, let us stand as witnesses that true security is found in our relationship with our Heavenly Father and our Savior, Jesus Christ. As we do, we contribute to making the world a better place, one soul at a time. Link to the original: Click Here
